Where is Kalkan in Turkey?

Kalkan is a little resort in Kas (Kaş) district, Antalya province on the southwestern coast of Turkey.

The historic town  is a charming place and one of the most beautiful locations along Turkey’s gorgeous Lycian Coast. With the absence of mass tourism, it remains a charming and unspoiled haven of lush nature, brilliant blue crystal-clear sea, ancient history and warm traditional Turkish hospitality.

Because of its unique geographical location and natural beauty, Kalkan has become one of the most popular destinations for European tourists. The Lycian coast stretches along the Mediterranean Sea from Antalya in the west to Marmaris in the East and is one of the most important tourist centers in Turkey.

The natural beauty of the coastal landscape with its pine forests, caves, waterfalls, and rocky cliffs attracts many visitors. It was the Lycians who settled at this site during the 3rd century BC and made it their capital.

Kalkan comprises the following parts:

  • Upper  (there are mostly houses of residents, and it is the most remote from the sea). Kızıltas, Ortaalan and Kalamar.
  • Lower (cafes and hotels predominate, by the sea and to the right, if you face the sea). Koyici, Komurluk and Kisla.
  • Kalkan Marina (a small bay where yachts and boats are anchored).

Where To Buy a Home in Kalkan?

There are 6 main parts to consider when buying property

You can buy your daily needs from here, or you can shop for souvenirs at the touristic bazaar, which is built between authentic houses with old Greek architecture. You can sip your tea in the tea gardens overlooking the cute harbor or you can organize a boat tour for your holiday from the boats in the harbor. It is great for families too like the rest of the area.

Kiziltas and above the D400

The panorama from Kiziltas is unlike any other part of Kalkan. From Kiziltas you can see the whole bay of Kalkan, Kalamar, and all the way to the Mediterranean. It is a wide perspective Kalkan offers no other panoramic view like this; the only one that comes close is in upper Ortaalan.

The properties there are in a peaceful place.

Kisla

Some of the most attractive villas and apartments in the district are in Kisla, on the left side of the bay, looking towards the sea and the harbor of Kalkan.

It’s a good place for street food and people-watching, as well as being the location of newer houses which have been built in recent years.

Known for its wines, grapes and olive trees, today Kisla is also a popular beach resort with holiday homes set in unspoiled natural surroundings.

Ortaalan

The second after the Kisla district, and according to some sources even better than Kisla, is the Ortaalan district at the top, right behind the city center and under the main D400 road that connects Kalkan with Antalya.

The streets in the district of Ortaalan are wide, clean, and pleasant. Sea view from all the houses as it is at the edge of the district. In this district, there are also some beautiful and well-maintained villas and apartments in the style of the 19th century.

Apart from the old stone buildings and the narrow streets, the town of Ortaalan has many modern villas and apartments, all within walking distance of the beach and the restaurants.

Here, you can walk to the city center and you will reach almost all the hotels and restaurants without having to drive. As the number of tourists is increasing, the area is becoming more lively, and more and more shops, bars and restaurants are opening up.

Ortaalan offers a wide range of activities. The best way to spend your time there is to have a walk along the beach, a cycle or simply relax. If you prefer water activities, you can go fishing, diving, swimming or even windsurfing in the sea nearby.
